What we do
We’re a pressure group representing our residents’ issues to health authorities, North Wales Police, and other public utilities, some of whom attend our meetings. We are consulted regularly on a wide range of topics by Flintshire County Council, the Welsh Government, national and regional agencies, and public utilities. We make comments and recommendations on changes which may affect our area. We make financial donations to various organisations and applications are considered at meetings throughout the year. As a community council, we’re responsible for:
- Benches
- Bus shelters
- Footpaths
- Notice boards
- Picton Cemetery
- Play areas and schemes
- Street lighting
Picton Cemetery
The Community Council owns and administers Picton Cemetery. All enquiries to the Clerk.
Play areas and schemes
We have contributed match funding towards summer play schemes in Ffynnongroyw, Gronant, Gwespyr, and Trelogan and the improvement of Flintshire County Council play areas in our villages.
Public footpaths
Although public footpaths are the responsibility of Flintshire County Council, we bring their attention to obstructions, the need for better signposting and improved stiles. We are consulted on other matters relating to footpaths across our area.
Street lighting
We own and maintain over three hundred 35w low-loss street lights lit from dusk to dawn. These areas are separately maintained by Flintshire County Council:
- Ffynnongroyw, Maes Owen and Main Road
- Gronant, housing estate and new developments
- Penyffordd, Maes Emlyn and Rhewl Fawr Road
- Trelogan, new estates
Planning applications
NB: It’s important to know that our Community Council consults on planning applications and makes comments and recommendations to the Flintshire County Council. We are not a planning authority and do not decide on planning applications.
